The sport of Trick work is generally separated into 2 separate catagories, open Trick work, were applicanats submit individual tricks to build as large a portfolio of different tricks as possible, in as diverse a range of subject areas as possible to attain each title. And Stunt Work, where applicants perform a set routine of tricks to either a live or virtual audience and are scored on their routines accuracy, showmanship and entertainment.
The standard titles of open trick work range from novice for which you submit 15-30 easy tricks to attain the title, all the way up to Expert, where you submit 5-10 hard chain based tricks to attain the title. Novice Tricks may include such things as targetting certain body parts, roll over, shake paw ect. Whislt expert tricks include standing on a ball or barrel and rolling it with their feet, performing a handstand or fetching a beer from the fridge. For each of these titles, submission of the lower number of tricks required gains the basic title, while submission of the maximum number of tricks required gains the Master Title.
In addition to the standard titles, there are also the Champion titles, these are Champion and Grand Champion and are submitted to a jury of 3 separate judges who must all deem the quality of the routine and the tricks performed to be of the correct standard to attain the title. These titles also contain specific elements to ensure that the dog has a broad range of abilities. Champion includes such things as targetting different areas of the body, scentwork and working at a distance from the handler. Whilst Grand Champion requires multi trick routines with a delayed reward, precision tricks such as individally targettting all 4 feet to different items simultaneously or playing connect 4 and moving between targets to perform tricks while maintaining distance from the handler.
Titles for Stunt work are attained by performing a routine with set requirements to a virtual or live audience & evaluator. All routines include differenciation between targets, pedestal work, and a floor routine. With each grade requiring routines containing harder and harder tricks. For instance the Novice Stunt Routine requires only novice tricks, while the Professional Stunt Routine Requires Expert Tricks.
These routines can also be performed in the competition setting where dogs perform their routine to a live panel of judges to receive points and grades on their accuracy and showmanship, the dogs with the highest scores are then awarded with placings. Competition grades can then be applied to your Standard Stunt Title.
There are also Champion Titles in Stuntwork, which require the dogs to perform a wide range of skills whilst also working with the handler to tell a story or deliver a message. These titles are aimed at building the skills for you to take your dog out on the road to perform live trick performances and shows. We have found they are really great for Mara's Therapy work, where she takes some props to the local Day Center or Care home and wows members and residents alike with her skills before offering saluki snuggles and doing tricks for the members for snacks.
Having dove into the world of Tricks with Do More With Your Dog, we now also participate in Trick Challenges and Awards with our local training clubs too where we have attained many awards and ribbons.

Here at Madejel Salukis we are passionate about proving that Saluki's can do absolutely anything! We love the mantra of "Do More With Your Dog" and from our very first award in 2021 we have been hooked. There are relatively few Salukis in the world have participated in the world of trick work and we were the first Salukis from the UK to ever participate in the sport.
We quickly progressed through positive training and lockdown goals, to take all three of our Salukis to the Champion Level within a year of beginning their awards. This made Madejel Salukis the 1st 2nd and 3rd British Salukis to ever attain the Champion Title. They were swiftly followed by yet another Madejel Saluki, Madejel Cinquième De Masai, also known as Fern, who also attained her Champion Title in December of 2021.
This meant that both Kaizu and Mara were able to be registered on the Trick Dog Register of Merit.
The primary purpose of the Register of Merit is to recognize those sires and dams which produce fine offspring who are accomplished in the Sport of Trick Work. Points are earned towards a dogs TD-ROM Title by their offspring earning trick titles. It is designed to show dogs who are not only accomplished in the sport themselves, but who also produce offspring accomplished in the sport as well. Mara & Kaizu are only Salukis in the world to ever do so.
In 2022 we were finally ready to submit our first ever Grand Champion Title for Mara & Kaizu's Daughter Bantu Dahari. This was evaluated by 3 separate judges and finally approved on the 25th of June 2022 just less than 12 months after Dahari had attained her first ever Trick Title and at the tender age of just 19 months old. We are incredibly proud to tell you that she is not only the 1st British Saluki to ever attain the title, but also only the 2nd Saluki in the World to attain the title. Making her one of the only 25 dogs, of any breed, in the world, to be named a Trick Dog Grand Champion.
